The following is a brief introduction to what exactly a marquetry work is Marquetry is the art of making pictures using different wood veneers, by cutting them into various shapes and gluing them to a backing board, the finished picture is sanded and then polished. Marquetry, also known as Moaragh is derived from intarsia or inlay. Marquetry is the art form used in making pictures and designs with thin slices of an immense variety of colored and textured wood, glass, shell, and other materials. It is an ancient technique for decorating the surfaces of furniture, as well as a versatile means of creative expression. The marqueter makes complex pictures by carefully cutting different veneers of wood into various shapes. These precisely cut pieces are glued into a solid stable surface. The finished product or picture is sanded and then polished. Most of the Artworks are so beautifully made that one might think that the figures and the shapes are painted. Many buildings in ancient Egypt, Persia, Rome and most buildings in Germany and Italy during the Renaissance days were decorated with exotic mosaic tiles, inlay stones, and ceramics. These items are very valuable in terms of time, labor and materials. Today this beautiful form of art can be viewed in many of the historic buildings throughout Europe and Asia. An authentic Marquetry does not contain any drawing or coloring. All the lines are cut and created using a special handsaw and tools. A complex picture is created by carefully cutting different naturally colored wood into various shapes. These precisely cut pieces are glued into a solid stable surface.
